Vegetable garden: Kitchen garden is a productive hobby
Many people who are passionately into indoor gardening admit to the fact that they started their gardening activities on a whim which quickly turned into a hobby. There are many aspects of gardening that are not only a form of relaxation but are also extremely addictive. Also, there is the added thrill of succeeding in the attempt to grow plants and displaying them to visitors and fellow hobbyists. Vegetable garden is one of those rare hobbies that not only satisfy the recreational needs of people, but also monetarily rewarding. It is not too difficult to get started with this hobby and it is bound to capture the interest of people within a short span of time. Many people think that a kitchen garden means growing plants on a strip of land. This is not entirely true because indoor garden of potted plants can be as abundant and as rewarding as a garden that is maintained on a piece of land. Plants and herbs can be grown in pots and in fact, with adequate attention, can out grow the plants that are grown on the ground. There are many vegetable garden enthusiasts who prefer to grow their gardens in pots rather than on the ground as they have gained expertise in this type of gardening.
Most people who are just starting out with a kitchen garden consider the maintenance aspect as the most difficult and irksome. They tend to say that in spite of regular tending and maintenance, they plants die off or wither away. The reality is that many plants wither away not due to lack of effort but due to over indulgence of the activity. Many people with misplaced enthusiasm can overdo the tending part. They water the plants in excess; provide excess quantities of fertilizers and manure or keep changing the soil due to perceived lack of growth of the plants, etc. These activities cause the plants to wither and eventually die. Maintaining and tending the garden is the easier part of the exercise. People will just need to follow the prescribed guidelines to ensure success in this endeavor. Moderation and strict adherence to guidelines can ensure success all the time. People will also need t realize that the gardening skill is an acquired art and they will get better with experience and time. Patience is also a key factor for the success of the endeavor. Most people who give up on gardening do it because of lack of patience. Vegetable garden produce can be sold or can be consumed by the gardener and the second option gives more satisfaction to the passionate practitioner.
